Introduction The Rangers Supporters Association was founded in 1946 at a meeting held in an office in Bath Street, Glasgow. Very soon after the opening meeting, we acquired an office at 194 Oxford Street, Glasgow, and a committee was formed. I am not aware if any of the Founder Committee members are still alive, but if so, I would be delighted if they would please contact me. Our next move was to larger rented premises in Rutland Cresent, Glasgow, where we stayed for a long number of years, until we eventually purchased a piece of ground approximately 250M from Ibrox Stadium, and had our own Association and Social Club built at 250 Edmiston Drive, Glasgow, which was officially opened in 1972, and although the club is still there it is now in new ownership and operates under the name of the Wee Rangers Club. We have 2 offices down at the rear of the club, and have fairly recently spent a considerable sum of money to upgrade them to a very decent standard. During our move from Rutland Cresent, we lost a lot of our records, hence the reason I am unable to give exact dates or our previous moves. Current status Although we are part of the Assembly,we have, and still operate our own constitution, and have regular Representative Council Meeting with our member clubs ( Appx 5 per year ) plus our AGM. We always were, and still are, a very democratic organisation and our member clubs and all of our members are entitled to a vote before any of our rules and by laws can be altered or new ones inserted, and any member can have his/her name nominated for any Office or position on our Executive Committee, at our Short Leet meeting which precedes our AGM every year. Over the last 2 seasons we have worked very closely with Hibernian, Hearts, Hamilton, Falkirk, St Mirren and Dundee Utd to obtain away tickets for our members and have been very successful, and have an excellent relationship with these clubs. We proved that we could satisfy the criteria they required under SPL rules and provided them with our Code of Conduct guidelines which all of our member clubs have been issued with.
Season 2010/2011 We are looking forward to next season and I have already been in touch with the above clubs (except Falkirk) about arrangements for next season. On behalf of the Rangers Supporters Association, I would welcome any enquires from new or previous supporters clubs who may be interest in joining the Association, and I will be delighted to provide further information as to how you can join us, and what the Association can offer your club. With best regards to all supporters Clubs John E Macmillan General Secretary Rangers Supporters Association. |
